5/5 mile 77.8 Lunch and a siesta

In the distance was a pyramid like hill. I pushed myself today to get “10 by 10”, in other words, 10 miles by 10 o’clock. And I made it! It was a hot day in the New Mexico desert and after 4 more miles it was noon and time for lunch. Very luckily I found a tree (they are very rare) and decided to just eat and then wait out the heat. A siesta! At 3:30 I started hiking again and fortune would have it that clouds appeared and blocked the intense sun intermittently. At the end of the day I was hiking around that pyramid hill.

  1. You’re not going to want to miss this.
The Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower takes place tonight, and it promises to be quite a show. The shower—which is one of the easiest to watch, thanks to its wide scope—peaks in early May. And because the moon won’t be very bright this evening, visibility should be particularly high. That means viewers will be able to see up to 30 meteors an hour streaking across the sky.

The Eta Aquarids are extremely fast, which results in especially bright “tails” made up of glowing debris that stretch across the sky, sometimes lingering for minutes before fading to black. The shower is visible in both hemispheres, with the best time to view being just before dawn.

    1. I’ve been cowboy camping (no tent) so the sky is wonderful to behold outside of city lights. I have seen a few meteors flash above me, but I’ve be exhausted and rarely stay up beyond 8-9 PM

  2. Nice tree ! Pyramid hill is likely a cinder cone around the vent of an extinct volcano. Keep your eyes open around Silver City. We read that bighorn sheep are on the move in that area, likely stirred up by mountain lion in the Turkey Creek area (NW of Silver City).
