Bored and misused

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:16 am

Work was boring. I’m to develop course materials as a subject matter expert (SME) in an area that I am not an SME. It’s just a short course of 30-60 minutes, but anyone listening to the materials will realize that the author is not someone to be trusted. And I don’t have another professional who is committed to judge if what I’ve done is valid. Somehow I’ve got to get out of this task.

  1. i feel ya. there are all sorts of things i’m good at that i don’t get to do at work for strange organizational or political reasons. and it has only gotten worse in the last two weeks. things will get better, but it makes me wonder about all the things i’m good at that don’t get used. maybe the opposite is worse, certainly strange to be considered a sme in something you’re not a sme in.

  2. When an organization doesn’t use the things you’re good at, then it’s two things: it’s your fault for not making sure that others know what you can do, and it’s the organization’s fault for not needing your capabilities. Remember that if you don’t use your talents they will atrophy, and if you aren’t challenged they you won’t learn, grow, and develop.
